IMBA Europe Mission Statement

IMBA Europe’s mission is to secure sustainable access for mountain bikers and to unlock opportunities for trail development at regional, national, local and/or community level by integrating mountain biking into landscapes, habitats and communities.

IMBA Europe will develop, produce and disseminate best practice in trail
planning, design, construction and management of trails.

IMBA Europe will cooperate with European and national agencies and landmanagers to formulate policies relating to provision sustainable trails and access opportunities.

IMBA Europe will cooperate with other advocacy organizations and land
managers to promote responsible mountain biking and trail use etiquette.

What will IMBA Europe achieve?

IMBA Europe will improve access to more trails closer to where people live.

IMBA Europe will also safeguard existing sustainable access opportunities.

Why IMBA Europe?

1. To represent mountain bikers’ interests on European level.

2. To secure resources, develop and produce know how.

3. To make the use of resources and opportunities more effective.

4. To disseminate and share expertise and best practice.

5. To guard trail access on European level.

6. To support existing and facilitate the development of new national MTB advocacy associations.

Why are standards and best practice important?

1. Sustainability standards and criteria inform trail planning, design, construction and management of whatever trail model or system they are applied to.

2. Sustainability standards and criteria create conditions for more strategic and significant trail developments tailored to local conditions / circumstances.

3. Consistent implementation of sustainability standards and criteria will make MTB advocacy associations more robust and credible advocates at all levels, including EU structures.
