European Day of Parks – Celebrate, Protect and Preserve the places we ride

European Day of Parks – Vote for nature

Today we celebrate the European Day of Parks, a commemorative day for Protected Areas across Europe – launched in 1999 by our friends at the EUROPARC Federation. It is a day that was created to celebrate the creation of the first National parks in Europe – a set of nine that were created in Sweden in 1909.

It seems fitting that we celebrate the European Day of Parks as we are gathered in the Vienna Woods for our 12th annual mountain biking Summit to discuss the importance of Peri-urban parks and the link to mountain biking. Nature is important to us all – from hikers, to mountain bikers to horse riders and beyond- the need to secure a healthy future for people and nature is essential. That’s why in 2024 – the year of the European elections- EUROPARC asks you to VOTE for NATURE . European citizens have the opportunity to vote on a new European parliament – a significant event that will dictate the future of the European Union, and ultimately our environment and lifestyles.

This year, the European Day of Parks will highlight how “essential our Protected Areas are for the development and implementation of nature policies & their central role in ensuring a sustainable and resilient society for European citizens to live, work and enjoy”. So let’s all #VoteForNature and give support to our natural heritage and places we love to ride!
