IMBA Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day (TKMBD) is an annual event that seeks to introduce the joy of mountain biking to the next generation. Created in 2004 and recognized by the U.S. Congress, TKMBD is officially celebrated every year on the first Saturday in October. More than 100,000 youth across the globle have discovered and celebrated the joy of pedaling two wheels on dirt at TKMBD events, and many have gone on to become passionate riders, volunteer trail advocates and even high school mountain bike racers
It's no surprise Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day will look different in many communities this year in order to keep everyone safe. On October 3rd, 2020, we encourage families and close neighbors to take their kids to the trails in lieu of the usual big local events. Share pictures and stories from your day with the hashtag #TKMBD. The rider card templates above are included in the toolkit below— use them to feature your young riders like the superstars they are. We hope we can all ride together again in 2021!
Safety continues to be top-of-mind on the trails and in local communities with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Be sure to know before you go for any special regulations such as temporary facility closures. Follow the safety guidelines of the local government closest to the trail you're riding, as well as guidance from the nearby IMBA Local Partner or other local trail organization.
