NH Bike is pleased to announce the organisation of the International Trail Building School between 14-15 October 2023 in Poiana Brasov. The school is fully sponsored by NHBike and is offered for free to any willing attendees (up to 40 people) from Romania or abroad.
Trail Building School Overview
IMBA’s Trail Building School teaches IMBA’s philosophies and trains volunteers, forest workers and land managers how to build and maintain sustainable singletrack. The school involves half a day in the classroom followed by 1.5 days of field instruction and hands-on trail construction. Participants must attend both the classroom and field sessions.

- The Half Rule
- The 10% Rule
- Building a full-bench-cut trail
- Incorporating grade reversals
- Installing rolling grade dips
- Drainage and laying out and constructing a climbing turn or bermed turn
- Bridge placement
- Armoring for sustainability
- Retaining walls
- Rerouting and reclaiming a trail with erosion problems.
Program: Day One
- Trail building classroom instruction (9:00 – 12:00)
- Lunch (12:00 – 13:00)
- Trailwork in the field (13:00 – 18:00)
- Social activity (18:00 – 21:00) optional
Day Two:
- Trailwork in the field (8:00 – 12:00)
- Lunch (12:00 – 13:00)
- Trailwork in the field (13:00 – 17:00)
- Ride (17:00 – 19:00) optional
