Hearing about the 2- meter rule in Baden Württemberg’s Parliament
3 June 2014

Big day tomorrow for our German member DIMB. There’s a hearing in the regional Parliament of Baden Württemberg as well as in the Technical Committee for Forest Affairs about the 2-meter rule. Last year, DIMB started a petition to abolish this discriminative rule for mountain bikers which was signed by more than 58.000 people. The hearing is planned for the 4th of June, 14h30. Speakers are: nature conservation associations, the regional hunting association, the Badische agricultural association, the Forestry Board, scientific experts, municipal associations, the Black Forest tourism, the hiking and the cycling federationsAfter the lectures of each interest group, members of Parliament have the opportunity to consult the stakeholders and to clarify points still outstanding.Following the hearing, there will be a consult of the Committee on Petitions with the Technical Committee to prepare a recommendation for the State Parliament. The Parliament will decide on this recommendation, if necessary after a debate. Is hard to tell when the State legislator will decide on a possible change of law. Audience is permitted at the hearing, but has no right to speak. Overall, it’s beneficial to DIMB’s cause if some bikers visit the hearing but not by applause or expressions of displeasure (see rules for visitors to Parliament: http://bit.ly/1jzHElg ). Visitors must also sign up for a visit to the Chamber at email petitionen@landtag-bw.de . Currently, the lectures of the cycling associations in consultation with ADFC, BRV, WRSV and DIMB are created. There’s no date yet announced for the final decision of the Parliament, a little patience is still needed. A positive point is that discussions behind the scenes have become more constructive in recent months. Hopefully DIMB ‘s patience and perseverance will be paid off in the end. After the hearing, there’s the opportunity to meet each other at the new pumptrack besides Jugendhaus Weilimdorf, Solitudestraße 129, 70499 StuttgartMore info: Treffen nach der Anhöring
