IMBA España plans new actions to fight the radical restrictions towards trail access for mountain biking as mentioned in the new management plan for NP de la Guaderrama. New proposed legislation would basically reverse all the efforts IMBA España has undertaken in the last 13 years to gain access to most of the roads and trails in this National Park. The draft management plan prohibits mountain biking on all trails and only leaves a few tracks left of more than three meters wide without any additional explanation.
Remarkable detail, In 2013, the IMBA Europe Summit was held in Cercedilla, located in the Sierra de la Guaderrama. The rigorous turnaround of the park officials and policy makers has come as a surprise and forced IMBA España to immediate action.
All legal options to submit objections to the new plans are examined and mountain bikers have been mobilized to sign a petition to make their voice heard. On April 5th, all mountain bikers in the region are called by the local cycling clubs in Segovia to join a protest meeting by bike to offer the petition to the regional government of Castilla y León. In May, another protest meeting will be scheduled for the same purpose. More info www.imba.com.es
