Ylläs region in Finnish Lapland expands mountain bike opportunities

Now the Finnish forestry service has opened the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park for mountain bikers, 300 km of trails will be added to the existing network.  Yllas travel association, who recently joined the IMBA Europe network as associate member, is eager to accelerate the mountain bike development in this premiere destination in Finnish Lapland, 170 km north of the Arctic Circle. The area already had one of the most extensive cross-country skiing networks in the world and with seven fells surrounding two authentic Lappish villages, Ylläs truly is a natures lovers’ dream destination. The Ylläs travel association collaborates with the local municipalities and National Park administration and already started to work on a new trail network, one that is also suitable for less experienced mountain bikers. The recently acquired trail access will help to develop the mountain bike offer in the summer season while the region already offers an extensive winter bike trail network with over 90 km of groomed and regularly maintained trails. Most of these trails are suitable for all cyclists and families. Fat bikes are an excellent way to enjoy the National Park and to reach the unique wilderness cafes that previously have only been accessible by cross country skis.   More information about the Ylläs region can be found here
